Rear Floor FAQ
'55-'56 Rear floor area The rear floors were covered with linoleum that had a flat-grooved pattern stamped in it. It was used on the rear floor/spare tire well cover and the back of the rear fold-down seat. This material is no longer available but there is vinyl sheet material that could be used as a substitute. C.A.R.S. Inc. www.carsinc.com (800-521-2194) is a Chevy restoration supply company that has kits for 55-56 Nomads that use a pleated vinyl material very similar to the original Ford linoleum. This vinyl is available in uncut rolls measuring 54" x 47" and comes in red, blue and black. Other colors are also available but must be dyed. The cost as of this writing (8/2000) is $239 for a two roll set which is plenty to cover the rear floor and back of the folding seat. The only drawback is that the vinyl material is softer than the original linoleum and is subject to easier scratching and gouging. It will also allow surface imperfections to show through more than the thicker linoleum would. An alternative material would be carpet which was used in the '56 Parklane models and for '57 and newer wagons. It would have to be cut to shape and the edges bound to make it look like original.
